Volunteers do not necessarily have the time, they just have the heart.
Garth House offers a variety of volunteering opportunities:
- Welcome children and families to the center helping them feel at ease, safe and comfortable
- Assist with intake paperwork
- Entertain and watch children while family members talk with investigators
- Answer telephone, route phone calls, take messages
- Assist with general office duties including typing, filing, copying, folding, stuffing envelopes
- Computer data input
- Other secretarial/receptionist duties
- Set up booths and pass out educational information for public awareness events
- Do public speaking presentations for community education and awareness of child abuse
- Work with a committee to plan organize and request donations for fundraising activities and projects
- Trained volunteers visit new parents in area hospital distributing educational materials to them with an emphasis on Shaken Baby Syndrome, SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) and Post Partum Depression
- Program currently operating in:
– Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospital-Beaumont
– The Medical Center of Southeast Texas Hospital-Port Arthur
– CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Hospital-Beaumont - Volunteers make follow up calls to new parents who received brochures in the hospitals
- Volunteers work together assembling hospital packets for distribution to new parents
REQUIREMENTS:
- A concern for children and the genuine desire to help
- 18 Years of Age
- Complete Application, Interview and Screening Process
- Pass Texas Criminal History & CPS Background Checks
- Complete Training
- Sign Confidentiality Form
- TB Skin Test
