Our Services
The mission of Garth House is “to prevent child abuse and neglect and to lessen the trauma to child victims of sexual and severe physical abuse during the investigative, prosecutoral and healing process.” We serve Jefferson, Orange, Hardin, Jasper, Tyler and Newton Counties.
Forensic Interviews
The interview is the first step for a child to disclose what happened. Children needing forensic interviews are referred to Garth House by law enforcement and/or Child Protective Services. They are interviewed by highly trained forensic interviewers in a comfortable environment which allows them to be able to tell the details of what has happened to them or what they have seen happen to someone else. These interviews are conducted in a manner that provides the least amount of trauma to the child while allowing them to tell what happened in their own words.
Forensic Services
The multidisciplinary team include members from Garth House, District Attorney’s Offices, Law Enforcement, CPS, Forensic Nurses and Juvenile Probation. They collaborate together on the investigation and prosecution of child abuse cases to more effectively and rapidly respond to the needs of abused children. This team approach enhances the quality of assistance that is provided to children and families, improves investigations, and reduces the trauma to child victims.
Counseling
The Counseling Program provides specialized mental health services including trauma-focused counseling in order to meet the needs of child victims and their families. The purposes of the counseling program are to promote healing, lessen the likelihood of victimization, and to decrease the ongoing and long-term social, emotional, and developmental outcomes of trauma. Garth House is committed to providing evidence-supported “best practices,” ensuring children and families receive culturally-competent, developmentally-appropriate, trauma-focused therapy. Garth House recognizes the profound importance of caregiver involvement in each child’s healing, and provides the mental health services and support needed to assist parents and other family members build on their personal strengths and community supports as they respond to their child’s treatment needs. Services are offered to children, siblings and their non-offending caregivers.

Garth House offers counseling at no cost to children (age 4 -17) who have been sexually or severely physically abused and are not receiving counseling from another agency. Garth House offers outpatient treatment in all six counties. These services may also be provided through other professionals in the area. Garth House also acts as a referral agency. We will be glad to help you locate additional professional services as needed.

care coordination
The Garth House serves as the Coordinator for the Care Coordination Team.
The goal of the Care Coordination team is to ensure a strong, cohesive, and collaborative approach to all Commercially Sexually Exploited Children (CSEC) from identification through the investigative process until the case has been discharged from Care Coordination.
The Care Coordination team works closely with Law Enforcement, the District Attorney’s Office, DFPS, Juvenile Probation, CSEY Agencies and SANE Nurses from the time of the recovery to the prosecution of the case.
The Care Coordination Team provides a collaborative and compassionate response to Commercially Sexually Exploited Youth (CSEY) survivors and their families in order to restore hope and seek justice.
We involve the family in effort to seek healing and justice with the ultimate goal of successful reunification.
The Care Coordination Team is fully invested and fully devoted to the cause of eliminating Commercially Sexually Exploited Youth, both to survivors and their families, as well as to other members of the Multidisciplinary team.
Meet Taffee - our most giving employee
TAFFEE is our 12 year old Brittany Spaniel. She has received every Garth House employee of the month award since starting in 2014. Taffee works to reduce the trauma of children who are victims of sexual or severe physical abuse, as well children who are witnesses to violent crimes.
Her unconditional love is given to over 1,000 children a year during forensic interviews, counseling sessions, and child abuse trial proceedings in the courtroom.

Garth House promotes Community Education by providing tours, informational booths and age appropriate presentations to a variety of organizations including: schools, clubs, churches, hospitals and various other groups.
