Volunteers do not necessarily have the time, they just have the heart.

Garth House offers a variety of volunteering opportunities:

  • Welcome children and families to the center helping them feel at ease, safe and comfortable
  • Assist with intake paperwork
  • Entertain and watch children while family members talk with investigators
  • Answer telephone, route phone calls, take messages
  • Assist with general office duties including typing, filing, copying, folding, stuffing envelopes
  • Computer data input
  • Other secretarial/receptionist duties
  • Set up booths and pass out educational information for public awareness events
  • Do public speaking presentations for community education and awareness of child abuse
  • Work with a committee to plan organize and request donations for fundraising activities and projects
  • Trained volunteers visit new parents in area hospital distributing educational materials to them with an emphasis on Shaken Baby Syndrome, SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) and Post Partum Depression
  • Program currently operating in:
    – Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospital-Beaumont
    – The Medical Center of Southeast Texas Hospital-Port Arthur
    – CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Hospital-Beaumont
  • Volunteers make follow up calls to new parents who received brochures in the hospitals
  • Volunteers work together assembling hospital packets for distribution to new parents

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. A concern for children and the genuine desire to help
  2. 18 Years of Age
  3. Complete Application, Interview and Screening Process
  4. Pass Texas Criminal History & CPS Background Checks
  5. Complete Training
  6. Sign Confidentiality Form
  7. TB Skin Test
